Sweet As Blackberry Pie – Blake Island, Puget Sound
Itching to make some blackberry pie! We stopped at a few of our favorite spots as we worked our way south on Puget Sound. Port Madison was first, then we headed for Blake Island, always a favorite for the crew on Kismet. We are still on our way through Puget Sound to spend some time in South Sound. A new favorite for Jim and me.
Blake Island sits across from Seattle. It always surprises us to find slips available when we arrive. Today was no different, It was busy, and we had to jockey a few minutes for one boat to vacate their spot, so we could squeeze in. We love stopping here, not only for the stunning view of Seattle across the Sound but there are nice hiking trails and a beautiful beach that overlooks Mount Rainier. This is how our summer has shaped up so far, lots of walking on island trails and beach access by either anchoring or tying up to park docks.
We still had a slew of blackberries we picked while in LaConner. Jim and I enjoyed them fresh on pancakes for a few days, now we needed to bake them into something. I don’t use the oven on the boat much; we use it for storage. Today though, I emptied it to prepare for a very ambitious undertaking… two small, from-scratch, blackberry pies. I think Jim was in heaven.
Mount Rainier greeted us around every corner while in Puget Sound. Photos just never seem to do justice to this magnificent mountain.
