It was a Colossal Road Trip — Don't Need to do That Again — Just…
Kismet’s Road Trip Comes to an End in Anacortes, Washington
We afforded ourselves a two-night break near the end of Kismet’s road trip to visit friends, Patti and Eric, in Sand Point, Idaho. We camped in our boat at Travel America Park and visited our friends for an amazing dinner at their cabin on Lake Pend Oreille, only a few miles away. The next night they joined us at the campground for snacks, brats, and salad.
When we left Sand Point the next morning, we drove from our campground to Tulalip, WA, and spent the last night on the boat, out of the water, in a parking lot at the Tulalip Casino. They let people with RVs spend one night as they are passing through. We could have driven all the way to Anacortes, however, it would have been late afternoon when we arrived. We really needed to start the launch of our trip, and the boat, fresh and early the next morning.
Upon arrival at Anacortes, we used the travel-lift, at Cap Sante, to lower Kismet into the water. We didn’t have to wait long; Jim drove up to the lift, waited behind one other boat, and before we knew it we were floating in saltwater.
This summer, we’d like to keep our cruising itinerary loose, and not too well-defined. Guess there is a lot of that going on this year. We have been keeping a close eye on Canada’s border closure, because of Covid-19. If by some lucky chance it opens up, we want to change gears at a moment’s notice and head up as far into Canada as we can. At the moment, it seems a very unlikely event. The virus seems to be getting out of control in the United States. Three days after we arrived at Cap Sante Marina, the state introduced a statewide mandate requiring everyone to wear a mask when in public. Not an encouraging signal for our interest in crossing the border.
The plan now is to hang out in the San Juan’s for a while until we hear the next definitive border notice. If they extend the closure, we’ll head south to explore more of Puget Sound, South Sound, and Hood Canal. There is so much territory to explore here, and so many breathtakingly beautiful places hang out in the Pacific Northwest – south of the border. No matter what we end up doing this summer, we’re just happy to be out cruising.
